New functionality: RSS Feed Injector
Over past weekend we have added a new functionality to the News service; the RSS feed Injector.
This functionality help us define data flows that automatically will add news to our categories.
The processor interprets the news feeds, but also podcasts, videocasts and photo flows. We have successfully tested it already with sites such as Digg, Del.icio.us, Flikr.com or BBC.

The processor interprets the news feeds, but also podcasts, videocasts and photo flows. We have successfully tested it already with sites such as Digg, Del.icio.us, Flikr.com or BBC.
How does it work?
First we must identify the feed we want to add, for example BBC news: http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_world_edition/front_page/rss.xml, and how we want to name the source: in this example, we name it BBC.
From Manage Services -> News, we select RSS Feeds and click on add. We enter the feed’s URL, and the code we want to add as text to identify the source.
Once we click on ‘check’, the system will verify if the feed is valid or not and will collect the values by defect of the channel (image, icon, title, website). In this page we can (must) define the language for the Feed, so as the category in which we want to insert the contents. It also allows us to define a filter; for example, let’s say we only want news from “Guatemala”.
If we want more advanced filter options we can select the option ‘Advanced’, where we can filter by: all words, none of the words, category, file type, etc.
The fetching is done once every hour, but we can run at will by clicking “do-it”.
We hope this upgrade will be of your interest.
