One of the biggest obstacles facing non-profit-making organisations is dealing with a multi-lingual website, especially for those sections that are constantly being updated, such as news or events. However, Ab·core now offers a new function that will radically change this situation: from the news services setup you can allow your
extranet users to contribute to the translation of your articles.
How does it work?
First, you have to activate the
Extranet: log onto the services setup and select User Configuration.
Clicking on this will take you to a list with
6 options, for which you need to select
Yes to:
*The first option, "
Allow external users", if you wish to activate the extranet.
*The fifth option, "
Allow extranet users do contribute translations", if you would like your users to collaborate on translations.
*The sixth option, "
Show contributions links to non logged in users", if you would everyone to see the contributions links, not just those who are registered.
The
next step would be to
set the alerts, which in simple terms means
establish a moderator for the contributions. The moderator will revise and publish the approved content.
Log into:
services setup -> news -> contributions.
This is where the translation reviewer’s email address is set. Once this is done, everything is ready. At the bottom of every article that does not already have a translation, extranet users will have the chance to submit their own translation by clicking on the link
translate/traducir.
By clicking on this link, the system will request that the user log in or register. A page will then be displayed, showing the news content for translation in edit mode. By submitting a translation the
moderator will receive an alert email, revise and then publish the translation. The system will also then allow the reviewer to easily send an email to the translator, personally thanking them.
We’ve been working hard to release this new tool and therefore hope that it will prove both interesting and extremely useful !
