News :: Improvements and patches :: New Forum Service: to promote dialogue and discussion

Headline news

Coinciding with the Alternative Channel forum that Iwith.org co-organised, we have decided to launch a new service, the FORUM. We came up with this so that, in a simple format, we could initiate discussion, and exercise a control suited to our needs. In addition, there are tools for alerting people to fresh comments, statistics, filters and, obviously, customisation

Some time ago we told you that the news you were publishing could accept comments. Those comments often gave rise to discussion and debate among the readers and even the author.

Now we are offering you a new FORUM tool in which it will be you or any member of your organisation who proposes the debate or discussion and in which all internet users or, if you prefer, only those registered on your extranet, can take part.

It is as simple to click on to the Forum as it is to enter administration and services. Choose the language and category from among those that you have already created by clicking on "categories". Then give a title to the discussion.

In the space set aside for the abstract you can explain briefly the object of the discussion and then make your point. In Position you define what position this forum will hold among all those that you publish and then you can decide if it will be a debate open to registered users to any type of user.

As far as the Ab·core Platform is concerned, the forum service is based on improving the “comments” service that now allows us to:
  • Answer existing comments
  • Post a picture of the writer of the comment
  • Create a link to the profile of the writer of the comment
  • Restrict the comments of the registered users, if you so wish.
  • Make nested or on-line comments
  • Rank the comments chronologically.
The forum service groups the forums by category. We can define the header and footer, achieving a greater visual customisation. What’s more, users can follow the comments made on the forum by subscribing to the RSS feed reader. In the next few weeks, you can be sure that further improvements and functionalities will be added to the system following the comments of its first users.
